Lake Norman Real Estate:Some Truth’s about Relocating to Lake Norman Part II

Lake Norman Relocation

Restaurants

We have many of the traditional ‘chain’ restaurants as well as local favorites.  One of the favorite pastimes at Lake Norman is to travel by boat to your favorite restaurant.  I dedicated a post to this topic that can be found at Relax, Enjoy Lake Norman Lakeside Dining.

Just to name a few of the ‘chain’ restaurants, we have O’Charlies, Steak and Shake, Chili’s, Outback, Red Robbins and the list goes on and on.

For some local flavor, travel to Troutman and Julia’s Talley House Restaurant.  It may look like another charming older home but the locals know better!  Here you can experience true, home-style Southern cooking in a cozy and even homey restaurant!

In Mooresville one of the most popular hang-outs and sushi bars is called Joel’s.  From traditional sushi roles, to Joels own creation this is place you want to see and be seen.

In Cornelius/Huntersville you will find Birkdale Village.  Birkdale Village is also one our of favorite shopping areas but also has numerous restaurants to choose from.  Birkdale Village, being an open air mall, makes it one of the most popular destinations for a meal and stroll!

Upscale options include Soiree, Prickly Pear, Jeffrey’s, La Patisserie. Some of our fun spots include Vinnies and Indigo Joes to chains like Panera Bread.  We also have every fast food and pizza chain you can think of!

For a more comprehensive list check out Visit Lake Norman.  Near the bottom to the left you will see a place to choose ‘Where to Dine’.  This is a good resource for restaurants and more.

Lake Norman Schools

Much could be written about our schools.  Since Lake Norman encompasses 4 counties you can imagine you would get many many opinions.  I wrote another post entitled Lake Norman Has Many School Choices that also has links for you to do some of your own research.  My experience was with Iredell County Schools (Lake Norman Elementary, Brawley Middle and Lake Norman High School).  While my experience was a good one, I recommend you research all the area schools.

Shopping

We have a great selection of chain and private retail stores from Best Buy, Best Bath and Beyond, Staples, Super Target, Super WalMart, Belks to high-end specialty stores like Lavender and The Garden Party.

One thing you will notice when asking about directions, much of our explanations center around exit numbers on I77.  For example, Troutman most likely will be referenced by exit 42.  Mooresville is accessed by exit 33, 36 and the soon to be opened exit 32.  Davidson is at exit 30.  Cornelius is at exit 28 and Huntersville exit 25.  These are also mile markers so you can also calculate distances.  This explanation will help you understand the locale of the shopping malls listed below.

The Northlake Mall is the newest and closest large mall to Lake Norman.  It is located at Exit 18 and has several department stores ( Macy’s, Belks), specialty chains like J.Crew, The Gap, and Pottery Barn to name a few..

Birkdale Village at Exit 25 and mentioned above is in Huntersville and is a charming outdoor Urban Village with a theater complex, a Barnes and Noble Book Store, a Dick’s Sporting Goods.  There are speciality shops galore and it’s a great place to have a coffee at Starbucks and let the children play in the fountains on a warm summer day.   See the Birkdale at Lake Norman Video!

South Park Mall and Phillips Place should be your destination if you need High End.  Travel south on I77 to exit 5 and turn left.  Ending at The South Park Mall you will find over 100 higher-end stores including Neiman Marcus, Nordstoms, Hermes,Tiffany’s, Frontgate, Kate Spade, Puma, Abercrombie and much more.  Just down the street is Phillip’s Place where you will find restaurants and speclialty shops!

If you are an outlet shopper then you will head straight to the huge Concord Mills Mall which unbelievably is ranked as North Carolina’s number one tourist attraction!   Directions are too difficult to give here so I am including a map!
